The New York Times, of course, is the ultimate
luxury for me. I lug them home and spend days going through them. But, then
comes the time to recycle! I can’t do it! I cannot bring myself to move this
masterpiece along the chain to saving the planet.
Then, in the midst of a sleepless night, it
came to me. I would create my own “masterpieces” with bits of the paper. I
have been working in mixed-media for a few years so it seemed the perfect
solution.
I adhered pieces of the paper onto canvasses
that I had already added layers of paint, molding paste and other papers to.
I then painted over them, letting some of the words show through, or at
other times just letting the outline show. Over this base I painted an image
of New York City.
Manhattan has been a favorite subject of mine
for some time. This solved my problem, and gave me a new series to work on.
On my next vacation I am going to bring back
The San Francisco Chronicle! Oh the Golden Gate, the Palace of Fine Arts! My
paintbrushes are aquiver in anticipation! Enjoy!
